About The Midlands African Choir UK

Celebrating African culture, heritage and community through music.

Our Story

The Midlands African Choir UK was founded in February 2026 by a group of friends of Cameroonian origin who shared a passion for singing and a desire to preserve and celebrate African cultural heritage while building new lives in the United Kingdom. What began as a small gathering of voices united by friendship and a love of music has grown into a vibrant choir of eighteen singers from across the African continent. Today, our members represent a rich diversity of cultures and traditions, with roots in Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Together, we bring the sounds, stories, languages, and musical traditions of Africa to audiences across the Midlands and beyond.

As a newly formed ensemble, we have built our organisation through commitment, volunteer effort, and a shared belief in the power of music to connect people. In our early months, rehearsals were held in members' homes due to limited financial resources. Despite these challenges, our enthusiasm and dedication have enabled us to develop a growing repertoire and establish a strong sense of community among our members.

We believe that music is a universal language capable of breaking down barriers and creating understanding between people. Through every rehearsal, workshop, and performance, we seek to share the beauty of African culture, inspire pride among African communities, and build bridges with wider audiences throughout the United Kingdom. As we continue to grow, we are committed to becoming a recognised cultural organisation that enriches the Midlands through music, promotes diversity and inclusion, and creates opportunities for people of all backgrounds to come together in celebration, learning, and mutual respect.
